Altered Books

Chupaflores
9.5 x 12.5 x 1” (open)

During our stays in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, my favorite haunt was their beautiful library where I could look at art books, access the Internet with my laptop or just people watch in the courtyard garden while sipping a margarita. (two-for-one margaritas and beer at the library!) Every Thursday they had a fund-raising sale of old books donated by the American community. I would look for books with colorful covers to use for my Mexican door story-boxes or books in Spanish to use as altered books. I began a series of Mexican bird themed altered books. In this book, Chupaflores (flower-licker)  a pair of hummingbirds made of Mexican bark-paper kiss above a pop-up hibiscus blossom.
